「フランス語は国際語失格」

石原慎太郎東京都知事の言動は常軌を逸していて、いつもとても楽しませていただいているけれど、今回も抱腹絶倒。

「フランス語は国際語失格」発言で提訴される

　石原慎太郎・東京都知事が「フランス語は数を勘定できず国際語として失格」などと発言したのは名誉棄損に当たるとして、都内のフランス語学校校長、マリック・ベルカンヌさん（46）や日本人のフランス語研究者ら21人が13日、石原知事を相手に、新聞への謝罪広告掲載と計1,000万円余の慰謝料を求めて東京地裁に提訴した。
　石原知事は昨年10月、首都大学東京（今年4月開学）の支援組織設立総会で「フランス語は数を勘定できない言葉だから国際語として失格しているのも、むべなるかなという気がする」と発言。フランス語は「70」を「60+10」、「80」を「4×20」などと数えるため、知事の発言はこうした数え方を念頭に置いたものとみられる。
　これに対し、原告は「フランス語は数を数えられ、国際機関や多数の国で公用語として使われている。虚偽の発言で母国語として話したり研究する者の名誉を傷つけ、学習者の意欲をそぐことで語学校の業務を妨害した」などと主張している。原告代理人の酒井幸弁護士は「一部に変わった言い方があるが、『数えられない』との発言は理解できない」と批判した。
　石原知事の発言を巡っては、01年の雑誌インタビューで大学院教授の言葉を引用し「『文明がもたらしたもっとも悪（あ）しき有害なものはババア』なんだそうだ」と述べ、02年に都内の女性が慰謝料を求めて同地裁に提訴。今年2月「個々人の名誉を傷つけたとはいえない」と棄却され、原告側が控訴中。

国際語たるための要件として、きっと都知事の中では「数をきちんと数えられること」がトッププライオリティーであるに違いない。

Bravo!!!!!!!
Don't we just love Governor Ishihara?!
He makes such well thought-out and deep remarks - I'm always impressed by his extensive knowledge of the world outside Japan (outside Tokyo?). Since he is so smart and cares so much about numbers he may have noticed that the way Japan counts differs from the rest of the world as well....
And while we're at it, is he next going to claim that a language that is using four different writing systems in millions of combinations, with tons of different readings for the same character and 10 expressions for the same action is the future world language?
Well, whatever he's gonna do next, I'm sure he has the support of all the foreigners and senior women in Japan ;-)

Well... I totally agree with you.
I'm quite happy with this current situation that Governor Ishihara is very much popular all over Japan and if there were Prime Minister public election he might be the one.
